Deputy injured in aftermath of brawl

A deputy was injured in the aftermath of a disturbance at a night club Sunday morning, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant Tim Harris said in a statement deputiesand troopers from the state Highway Patrol responded to Club Orion's on Highway 158 after a large crowd was assembled in the parking during a fight.

Detectives Herbert Williams and Obert Wiltsie called for assistance and Deputy Aaron Smith, as he arrived, observed Williams attempting to arrest someone. When Smith assisted in handcuffing the suspect, he kneeled on a broken beer bottle.

The sheriff's office arrested Jeffrey Javon Stephenson, 28, of Seaboard, charging him with failure to disperse on command. He received a $300 bond.

It was not clear what caused the disturbance.
