Morgan Shepherd to attempt Daytona 500

Support Military Foundation announced that Morgan Shepherd will be driving the #93 SMF Toyota at Daytona International Speedway in an attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500.

If Shepherd makes the field he would become the oldest driver ever to compete in the Daytona 500. Shepherd, 71, most recently partnered with Support Military Foundation to become the oldest driver to compete in the Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire in 2013.

The team is a collaboration of BK Racing, Randy MacDonald of MacDonald Motorsports and Dell Hamilton of Support Military Foundation/HMR. "Whenever you can break a record or make history, it's something special. To have Morgan in the car and the SMF presented on the car we couldn't be happier," said Dell Hamilton.

Shepherd qualified 28th today out of 49 cars and only 43 will make the field for the 500. Shepherd will have to race his way in in the second Dual race Thursday night in Daytona.
