A Tuesday night traffic stop initiated by a state Highway Patrol trooper in the city limits of Roanoke Rapids resulted in charges being lodged by city police for a stolen gun and drugs.

Keeter

An initial report by Trooper L. Bynum says Preston Skyler Keeter, 19, of Pleasant Hill, was reportedly operating a vehicle in a careless and reckless manner, crossing the center line. When he overcorrected he nearly struck a pole around 11:30 p.m.

This led to charges of careless and reckless driving and DWI due to narcotics being lodged against Keeter, according to the report.

The stop at the intersection of East Tenth and Charlotte streets also led to the discovery of a stolen firearm and two bottles of drugs, one reportedly containing Xanax and the other containing Promethazine.

Bynum handed the drug and firearm case over to Roanoke Rapids police after the items were allegedly discovered in the Nissan pickup.

Captain O.L. Morgan of the police department said Keeter was charged with larceny of a firearm, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and possession of Schedule IV.

Turner

Ryan Chance Turner, 18, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with possession of Schedule IV, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of stolen goods and carrying a concealed weapon.

Both men were given $6,000 secured bonds and have March 19 court dates.

The weapon was stolen from Roanoke Rapids, Morgan said.
