The house at 1037 Vance Street, a mill house built into duplex and being used by the same family, sustained some content damage, but is believed to be repairable, Battalion Chief Richard Cook said this evening.
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. and found light smoke coming from the northeast corner of the house. They did not contend with flames until going inside. They contained the fire within 5 minutes of arrival.
Eight people lived inside the house, Cook said, using both apartments.
The front room content loss included a bed, some clothes and a television.
Cook said there appeared to be two points of origin, a bed and the closet.
The American Red Cross was at the scene to assist the family with temporary living arrangements.
