An Enfield man who gave a stranded motorist a ride and went back and allegedly stole his car was arrested late Tuesday night.

Turnage

Jerome Turnage, 49, faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The charges stem from a matter on April 9 when a victim from New York broke down in his Mitsubishi on Interstate 95 near the 160 mile marker, according to Detective J.M. Clark of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

The victim solicited a ride from Turnage to Rocky Mount. When the victim went to retrieve his vehicle, he found it had been taken.

Clark said Turnage allegedly had the vehicle removed by using another vehicle to tow it away.

The vehicle has not been located and there are no signs thus far it has been sold for scrap.

Officer Lynette Clements of the Enfield Police Department arrested Turnage following a routine traffic stop late Tuesday night.

He was jailed on $1,500 bond and has a July 9 court date.
