A 17-year-old Weldon youth has been arrested in a May 21 shooting death that occurred in the Cottonwood Road area outside Roanoke Rapids.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said Quantonio Devalous Rogers was arrested without incident today at a residence in Weldon. He faces a charge of murder in the death of Alvin Pierce Jr., 23, who was found dead in his vehicle.

“My investigators worked diligently on this case day and night since it happened,” Tripp said.

Rogers was jailed without the opportunity for bond and was assigned a June 4 court date.

Searching for evidence in the case.

Tripp said investigators have a motive in the case, but declined to immediately comment.

He also declined to discuss how many times Pierce was shot and would only say a firearm was used in the murder.

Rogers and Pierce knew each other, he said.

Pierce was found dead after deputies responded to what was initially a car wreck call on Cottonwood Road near the old airport shortly before 10 p.m.

Tripp said in a statement the case remains under investigation. This afternoon detectives watched as divers searched a creek off Hinson Street for further evidence in the case.
