Woman charged with stealing, cashing check

A Scotland Neck area woman was charged last week with cashing a personal check reportedly stolen from a residence in Hobgood.

Waters

Detective Obert Wiltsie of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Marian Waters allegedly cashed the check at a Scotland Neck business on May 10, obtaining $75.

Waters was known to the victim and the business owner and was arrested June 18 for larceny, forgery and uttering and obtaining property by false pretense.

She has a July 30 court date.
