Emporia killing suspect caught in Rocky Mount

United States marshals apprehended an Emporia man wanted for the murder of his former girlfriend in Rocky Mount Friday.

Emporia Police Chief Don Wyatt said in a statement officers arrived at the 900 block of Reese Street in the Virginia city following a shooting call shortly before 5:30 a.m. Friday.

They found Michelle Roper, 36, lying in the front yard dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Lamont George, 47, was apprehended without incident in Rocky Mount.

The man faces charges of murder; the attempted murder of Wakki Roper; breaking and entering of a residence with the intent to commit a felony; possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a violent felony; larceny of a motor vehicle; two counts of using a firearm while committing or attempting to commit murder.
