Detective Obert Wiltsie of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office described Hazel Elizabeth Page, 39, who lived in Halifax at the time of the reported crime, as a trusted friend and family member to mainly elderly victims, most of whom lived in Virginia.

There are approximately 10 victims in the case who suffered total losses of around $20,000 by the fraud.

Charges against Page, who was arrested Saturday are as follows: 14 counts of obtaining property by false pretense; 32 counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense; 26 counts of identity theft, and one count of interfering with a utility meter. The last charge reflects her allegedly tampering with a water meter after her service was turned off to turn it back on, Wiltsie said this morning.

Initial investigation into the case dates back to March of 2012 when the first victim reported their information was used to establish electric service. Additional reports came in through this February of the same activity.

Those complaints consisted of Page reportedly receiving services by using the victims' information. She established electric service, cell phone service, credit cards, charge accounts, and television service with this information.

Through her position of trust, Wiltsie said, Page was reportedly able to use the victims' names and obtain social security and drivers license numbers.

She was jailed on $50,000 bond and has an August 13 court date. Investigation continues.
