A juvenile who failed to return to a juvenile offender development center was located this morning in a wooded area in the Lincoln Heights community.

The juvenile, identified by the state Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice as Joshua D., initially ran from officers with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Wes Tripp said.

On the second attempt, after setting up a perimeter, the juvenile was apprehended.

The juvenile was scheduled to return to the Dobbs Youth Development Center in Kinston on Sunday, but never showed up, the state said in a news release.

After his capture around 6 this morning, he was returned to secure custody at an undisclosed juvenile detention center.

Besides the sheriff's office, the state said in a news release that officials from Juvenile Court Services and the Security Services section of adult correction and juvenile justice assisted in the search.
