The announcement, a joint statement says, comes after seven months of review that concludes the current healthcare environment is conducive to merger.
Due to the successful work with the shared services, however, they will extend their Novant Health Shared Services contract management agreement.
“Halifax Regional has implemented significant savings in the past year while the environment has changed measurably,” HRMC Board Chair Bob Patterson said. “Both parties understand the need for financial stability amid a varying landscape of lower reimbursements and changing emphasis on population health.”
Said Patterson: “We recognize this is a change in plans, but we must measure and position the medical center for its future role. Continuing to work with Novant Health Shared Services supports our mission and meets the needs of our patients. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Novant Health.”
Meanwhile, Patrick Easterling, president of Novant Health Shared Services, said, “Novant Health is honored to have worked with Halifax Regional this past year. Our partnership has optimized efficiencies at Halifax and allowed them to remain autonomous while bringing value to their surrounding community.”
Said Easterling: “In today's climate we remain very impressed with Halifax Regional's financial strength. We look forward to extending our management agreement going forward.”
