Lovell 'Bell' Stansbury Gray

Lovell “Bell” Stansbury Gray, 98, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Hampton Manor in Gaston.  

Mrs. Gray was born September 29, 1916 in Halifax County to the late James Lee and Etta Smith Stansbury.  

In her childhood years she was a member of Weaver’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Littleton.  She later became a charter member of Lakeview Park Baptist Church and held the title of being the church’s oldest member.  

Mrs. Gray retired from J.P. Stevens in 1979 after nearly 40 years of dedicated service.  After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and took numerous bus trips. Mrs. Gray was also a member of the Progressive Seniors. 

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Clarence Jackson Gray; her son Gene Jackson Gray; her son-in-law Howard Keeter:  her brothers Willis, Horace, and Alvin Stansbury; her sisters Betty Mae Lynch, Polly Wilson, Mary Rue Bell; as well as a number of brothers and sisters-in-law and a several nieces and nephews.  She is also preceded in death by a special friend Tommy Lynch.

She is survived by her daughter Marie G. Keeter; her grandchildren Cheryl Keeter Dixon and husband Edmond; Ken Keeter and wife Tere Su`; Tammy Keeter Lee and husband Randy; and Wayne Gray and wife Delores; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.  Mrs. Gray is also survived by her brother Roy J. Stansbury; and her sisters Bessie S. Bennett; and Katherine S. Faison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Jeremy Kobernat and Pastor Billy Hardwick officiating.  Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and all other times at the home of her daughter, Marie Keeter.
