A Conway man was charged Monday on counts related to stolen checks cashed at several businesses.

Captain Chuck Hasty of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said Joshua Simon Hinson, 30, faces charges of obtaining property by false pretense, forgery of an endorsement and uttering a forged endorsement.

The charges stem from an investigation that began in August when a Northampton County business reported a check was returned as stolen,

The checks were reported stolen during a car break-in in Conway. Investigation reportedly tied Hinson to the crime.

Investigation also revealed several other checks were allegedly either cashed or attempted to be cashed in other areas of North Carolina and Virginia.

He was given a $9,000 bond for the Northampton County charges and assigned a November 6 court date.

He was also served a fugitive warrant from Franklin, Virginia for forgery and given a $25,000 bond.

He has pending charges in Hertford County for obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy, and identity theft stemming from the stolen checks.
