Detective J.M. Clark of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the parents of the child, who is less than 13, learned of the alleged offense between Friday and Sunday night. Clark was called to respond around 11 p.m. Sunday.
The man, 21-year-old Chaze Deven Martin, a family friend of the victim's parents, was at the residence, along with the parents.
Investigation by Clark led to Martin's arrest on charges of first-degree sex offense with a child, crimes against nature and indecent liberties with a child.
Martin, who is from Gallipolis, Ohio, was jailed this morning on $100,000 bond and has a November 26 court date.
Martin had been visiting the child's family. The Weldon Police Department and uniformed deputies of the sheriff's office assisted in the case.
