A man and woman have been charged with six counts of identity theft in a case where they reportedly obtained bank account information of an acquaintance.

Detective Obert Wiltsie of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the arrests of Jill Arrington, 37, and Carl Nicholson, 33, are the result of investigation that began September 12 after receiving a fraud report.

The victims, who live in Enfield, had fraudulent transactions on their bank account where fraudulent checks were deposited and money was withdrawn. Approximately $2,463 was taken from the account.

Investigation reportedly tied the crimes to the pair, who have ties to the Rocky Mount and Enfield areas.

Nicholson and Arrington were charged with six counts of identity theft; six counts of obtaining property by false pretense; six counts of forgery of an instrument and six counts of uttering a forged instrument.

Arrington was served warrants at the magistrates office this weekend and received a $10,000 bond and Wednesday court date. Nicholson was also served warrants this weekend by Rocky Mount police. He was given a $12,000 bond and Wednesday court date.
