Investigators with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office are assembling clues in a murder that occurred late Monday night in an area near P&J Mobile Home Park outside Roanoke Rapids off Highway 48.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said Derrick Anthony Arp, 29, was found outside on Marlbrook Drive.

He had been shot and later pronounced dead from his injuries.

Tripp declined to immediately discuss motive in the case or how many times Arp was shot and with what type of weapon. “We are following up on leads,” he said.

Deputies responded to the scene around 11 p.m.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
