Dorothy Morris Carlisle Barnes

Dorothy Morris Carlisle Barnes, 82 passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Liberty Commons in Weldon.

Mrs. Barnes was born May 7, 1932 in Halifax County to the late Lee Morris and Reba Denning Morris. She was also preceded in death by her husbands:  Harvey Carlisle and H.R. “Duke” Barnes; and her brother: Jimmy Beasley.

Mrs. Barnes retired from the City of Roanoke Rapids.  She was also a member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church.   She loved to sew and quilt and was an active member of the Roanoke Valley Quilters Guild.

She is survived by her children; Jean Ellis and her husband Louis “Frog” Ellis , Reba Allen and her husband Robert , and Russell “Rusty” Barnes and his wife Lisa; her grandchildren Michelle Salter and her husband Nick, Michael Garner and friend Tracee;  Steven Ellis and wife Laura; Ross Allen; Samantha Barnes;  and Brooke Barnes; her great grandchildren: Tyler Garner;  Austin Bigley; Alexis Garner; and Jake Ellis; her sisters: Mary Lee Daniel; Betty Dickens and husband Alton; her brother: Garvie “Tiny” Beasley.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 18, 2014 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 17, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Jean Ellis, 601 Cleveland Street.
