Three Jacket teams fall Friday on the road

The Roanoke Rapids JV boys lost a heartbreaker 67-68 to South Granville High. This drops the Junior boy Jackets to 4-4 in conference play.

The Roanoke Rapids varsity girls played with heart all night, never giving up, but coming up just a little short. The lady Jackets lost to South Granville 57-64.

Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were: Alizae Neville with 31 points, Brianna Allen with 12 points, Brooke McClenny with 6 points, Alloni Wallace with 4 points and Taylor Medlin with 2 points.

Head coach Jim Whitmire comments,"We were on the road again, this time to South Granville.   We got off to our customary slow start.   We turned the ball over and missed shots, often and early.   We found ourselves 13 down at the half.   Came out of the locker room, with more of the same.   We were down by 21 in the third quarter when things took a dramatic turn.   The girls amped up the pressure with the full court press and started to cause a lot of headaches for the Vikings.   We pulled to within 4, with 2 minuets to play.   Kept the pressure up and kept the game within reach.   Made some critical errors in the last minuet and ended up losing by 6.

This, however, was the "best loss" of the year.   These girls never gave up.   The game plan changed, the intensity shifted, the fouls committed on us increased, and the crowd was very loud, but we NEVER gave up.   This is sign that this group has made the "next step" in the maturation process.   If we can start like we finished tonight, this team could win out all remaining games.

The Roanoke Rapids varsity boys lost to South Granville 58-82.

Leading scorers for Roanoke Rapids were: Marcus Jones with 14 points and Semaj Smith with 13 points.

Head coach Tyler Snyder comments, " They came out on fire and we had no answer. They showed us why they are undefeated in the conference. We played a much better second half so hopefully we learned that against good teams we need to start quick."
