New spate of vehicle B&Es reported Roanoke Rapids Police Department

Roanoke Rapids police, who have been investigating a string of vehicle break-ins, are looking for a man who may be involved in stealing two of the vehicles broken into.

Investigator Jeff Davis said the most recent break-ins have occurred over the last two weekends, the target being unsecured vehicles where loose change and electronics have been the target.

Two vehicles were stolen within a three to four day period but were located, Davis said this afternoon.

Investigation during the recovery process led to the man pictured above being connected to the theft of the two vehicles as well the breaking and entering of them.

Davis said there were no signs of forced entry to the stolen vehicles, one which was taken in the early morning hours Sunday. “It's undetermined how access was gained and there was no damage to show forced entry.”

Thieves continue to target unlocked vehicles, Davis said. The most recent ones have occurred in the Old Farm Road area, the 700 block of Virginia Avenue, as well as the northeastern parts of the city.

Davis estimates over this latest period a dozen vehicles have been broken into and since April of last year an estimated 200 unsecured vehicles have been targeted.

The police department, he said, encourages people to continue to secure their vehicles and remove items of value from them.”It's a shame when we can no longer live in a time when we can leave our doors and homes unlocked at night because of individuals that choose to take from those who work hard for a living and take whatever they see fit.”

Anyone with information on the breaking and entering cases or the person pictured above is encouraged to call Davis at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
