Key documents have been sealed in the heroin distribution case of a Weldon man arrested Friday on a federal warrant.

United States Attorneys Dana J. Boente and Joseph DePadilla filed the motion to seal the criminal complaint, arrest warrant and affidavit in the case of Ricky Weldon “Sosa” Love Jackson Thursday.

The motion states the criminal investigation in the case is ongoing. “Sealing is necessary to avoid notification of the existence of the arrest warrants, search warrants and seizure warrants which could result in flight from prosecution, the destruction of or tampering with evidence, publicly identify subjects who have yet to be charged with criminal offenses, cause the intimidation of potential witnesses or otherwise jeopardize the ongoing investigation. Another procedure will not adequately protect the needs of law enforcement at this time.”

Magistrate Tommy E. Miller signed the order approving sealing the documents.

What is known in the documents available is that Jackson appeared in court in Norfolk Friday for about five minutes and was advised of his rights, requested counsel and was scheduled to appear back in court Wednesday for a detention hearing.

He was remanded to the custody of United Marshals until the outcome of the formal detention hearing is determined.

The arrest warrant notes that Jackson is charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin. It notes he was arrested Friday in Weldon.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said Friday Jackson, 37, has possible ties to the local heroin trade.
