Morning raid nets cocaine find, arrest

Six arrested in Northampton school fight

A Tuesday fight in the cafeteria of Northampton County High School has resulted in six arrests.

The State Employee's Credit Union has submitted an initial sketch of its proposed bank on Tenth Street.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office reported the following:

An early morning raid in the Walston Street area of Roanoke Rapids led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man on drug charges today.

The Halifax County Chapter of the NAACP has collected 75 signatures and its president expects to collect a total of 250 from those living inside the Roanoke Rapids city limits whose children cannot attend school in the city's district because of the current configuration of its boundary lines.

Roanoke Rapids City Council will have to invest in due diligence before deciding whether to change an ordinance which prohibits keeping swine within the city limits, Mayor Emery Doughtie said.

A 2-1 vote Monday led to the ouster of Halifax County Schools Superintendent Elease Frederick, the board of education member who made the motion to release her said this afternoon.
