Shirley Burnette Acree, 84, of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

She was a native of Northampton County and was the daughter of the late James Leslie Burnette and Mertie Camp Burnette. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Marie Tudor, Catherine Clements, and three brothers, Eugene Burnett, Carl Burnette and Cirven Burnette. 

Her favorite quote was “Always be Humble and Kind.”

She is survived by her two sons, John Acree, Jr. and his wife, Beverly of Jackson and Danny Lee Acree and his wife, Angie of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren, Thomas Webb and his wife, Tiffany, Christina Bundy and her husband, Thomas, Catherine Vore and her husband Nic, and Daniel Acree; two great grandchildren, Blake Bundy and Ethyn Bundy; her loving canine, “Buster”, special nieces and nephew, Debbie Burnette Dixon, Dane Tudor, Jeffrey Clements and several other nieces and nephews; best friends, Mary Ann “Jonsie” Jones, Priscilla Vincent, and Priscilla Woodruff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Willow Run for camper financial assistance, 190 Mangum Lane, Littleton, NC, 27850

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

Interment will follow at the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, 784 Lebanon Church Road, Garysburg, NC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
