Raymond Grey Burton, Jr., 68, of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

He was a native of Halifax County and was the son of the late Raymond Grey Burton, Sr. and Rachel Oliver Burton. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Richard Wray.

Raymond started with Champion International Paper and retired from WestRock paper after 32 years of service. He worked the same paper machine “Dixie Queen” his entire career, that his father worked on for over 40 years. After retirement he worked with Stevie Harris Enhancements. 

Raymond had a lifelong love for fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Allison Wray Burton; his daughter, Olivia Burton Vincent and her husband, Justin of Franklin, Virginia; his step daughter, Winborne Walker and her husband, Zane of Asheboro; his sisters, Leigh B. Edwards of Roanoke Rapids and Lynn Johnson of Hartwell, Georgia; his grandchildren, Liam Vincent, Wade, Adalyn and Emerson Walker; his niece, Heather Merritt and her husband, Travis; three nephews, Rock Edwards and his wife, Brooke, Elliott Johnson, Logan Johnson and his wife, Esther; his mother-in-law, Patty Wray; sister-in-law, Lynn Wray of Apex; brother-in-law, Chris Wray and his wife, Laura of Sugarland, Texas and his loving canine, “Ranger.”

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday.
