Douglas Edward “Eddie” Keeter, Jr.

June 8, 1948 – April 8, 2024

Douglas Edward Keeter, Jr., 75, of Roanoke Rapids, left this earthly life on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Autumn Care of Nashville. 

Eddie was born June 8, 1948, to the late Douglas E. Keeter, Sr. and Elsie Deberry Keeter.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Wilkins Keeter.

Eddie was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church in Skippers, Virginia.  He is a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School (66) and Chowan College (68).  Eddie retired from Dominion Power with almost 30 years of service in the Roanoke Valley area.
Eddie spent over 35 years of his life coaching and officiating youth soccer throughout the state and surrounding areas. He gained many life-long friends from his time on the field.  He viewed his players as his children and regarded them as such throughout his life.  He closely followed their accomplishments both on and off the soccer field and found joy in their successes and opportunities to reconnect.  Time spent as part of the Sidekicks soccer program held a special place in his heart. 

Eddie is survived by his children, Douglas Edward Keeter, III (Jennifer), Christopher Blair Keeter (Shelly), Walter Bradford Keeter (Elizabeth), and Justin Blake Keeter (Kelly) as well as their mother, Cathy Hux Keeter; grandchildren, Douglas Edward (DJ) Keeter, IV, Caimen Joseph Allen (CJ) Keeter, Audrey Brooke Keeter, Baylor Mark Keeter, Beckett Edward Keeter, Brody Taylor Keeter, and Madilyn Blake Keeter.  He is also survived by his brothers, Perry Wayne Keeter (Pam), Stephen Deberry Keeter (Kathy), and his sister, Nancy Keeter McKinnon (Bobby). 

Eddie is also survived by his nephews Dee Keeter, Gray Keeter (Kristen), Ryan Keeter (Katie); nieces Emily McKinnon and Meredith McKinnon and great nephews and niece, Seth, Caroline, Reed, and Clay Keeter. Eddie is also survived by Martha’s children, Scott Wilkins (Kati) and Matt Wilkins and granddaughter, Abby Wilkins

The family will have a visitation on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM in the chapel with Pastor Rick Ragan officiating. 

Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
