Tonya Claiborne, 77, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at her home. 

She was born in Halifax County to the late Jasper Clarence Parrish and Clara Mae Butler Parrish.  

She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas William Claiborne, Sr., daughter Tracy Miles, and Grandson Thad Ryan (TJ) Nelson, Jr.

Tonya was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her sons Timothy Ray Nelson, Sr. (Patty), Thad Ryan Nelson (Michelle); her daughters Tammy Strickland (Ty), Tina Lillibridge (James); Her brother Dennis Parrish; her sister Kathy Heath; Her Grandchildren Aaron, Jaime, Karl, Kaci, Timmy, Mary Beth, Ashley, Katelin, Shellie, and Corey; 27 Great Grandchildren and one Great-great Grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be held at Hockaday Chapel Friday, August 25, 2023 at 2:00PM with a visitation starting at 12:30 prior to the service.  Randy Martin will officiate the service.  Burial will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery following the service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Tonya’s special caregiver Melissa Allen and also a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to her.
