Donald Ray Abernathy, 72, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at his residence.
Mr. Abernathy was born on September 3, 1951 in Halifax County, the son of the late Mildred Davis and Benjamin Abernathy.
He is also preceded by his wife Rebecca Ann “Becky” Roughton Abernathy, his sisters Elaine Whitby and Nancy Finch, and his brother Roger Dale Abernathy.

He attended East 10th Street Church of Christ and served our country as a member of the United States Army.
Don enjoyed watching all sports and played many particularly well, especially basketball. He loved the beach, enjoyed cooking for loved ones and spending time with his family.
Surviving include his daughter Kimberly Olivier (Desmond) of Pearland, TX; his sons: Donald Abernathy (Tracy) and Michael Abernathy, both of Mt. Juliet, TN; his sisters: Joan Todd, Judy Myrick (W.T.), and Rose Abernathy; his brother Ricky Abernathy; his grandchildren: Sydney Olivier, Desmond Olivier, Violet Abernathy, and Iris Abernathy; his dear friend Betty Johnson and many other extended family members.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Jason Yeatts officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
