Alyda Odell Pierce Harrington, 96, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at ECU Health North.

Odell was born July 26, 1927, in Drum Hill, North Carolina to the late Jordan E. Pierce and Estell Roundtree Pierce. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband Willie L. Harrington; her sister, Mary Ross Pierce; half-sisters Martha P. Eldridge and Mattie P. Taylor Cole; half-brothers, Kenton E. Pierce, Jordan O. Pierce, Sr. and Joseph E. Pierce and a special friend, George “Billy” Revells. 

Odell was a member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church and an active member for 50+ years. Odell was a graduate of Gates High School and Roanoke Rapids School of Nursing. Odell retired from Halifax Memorial Hospital after 34 years of service as a labor and delivery nurse.

Odell is survived by many friends and special friends, Renee and Michael Claiborne, Ethel Revells, her very special caregivers, Jo Gregory, Pastor Dennis Gregory, and Wilma Walker. Plus, my friends, Millie Taylor, Margaret Wells, and Martha Cole.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Dr. Dennis W. Gregory, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Old Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. They will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
