Roanoke Rapids Graded School District has an exciting announcement this week!

We were awarded Third Place for the North Carolina School District Cup in the Small District category.

The points are based on our performance in the Quill, Quiz Bowl, and Robotics Competitions this year.

We are so proud of all our students and staff who contributed to this success!

Our high school Solar Superstars went to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, last week, where they won second place.

We are excited they have been invited to compete in the prestigious World Solar Tournament in Minnesota from May 5-8, 2024.

An exciting night of fellowship is in store for Roanoke Rapids Early College juniors.

They have the opportunity to come to Fairwood Lanes bowling alley on April 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to bowl two games and enjoy some delicious pizza together. Admission is free for our juniors, but they must sign up in advance with Ms. Keisha Moseley, RREC Administrative Assistant.

We are proud of Kemare Carter and Emerson Bobbitt, juniors at RREC, who were selected to attend the prestigious 2024 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference in Columbia, NC, from April 5-7, 2024, with all expenses paid.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership program organized by Rotary Clubs worldwide that is aimed at nurturing the leadership potential of young individuals. Congratulations, Kemare and Emerson, and a big thank you to the Rotary Clubs and the Rotary District for their support in making this opportunity possible.

Roanoke Rapids High School held Senior interviews this week. We are thankful for the community members who show up to support our students by interviewing them. Seniors gain invaluable experience regardless of whether they are preparing to enter the workforce or pursue higher education. Beyond merely practicing responses to common questions, these simulated interviews offer seniors a chance to refine their communication skills, boost their confidence, and identify areas for improvement.

Chaloner Middle School is planning its Night of the Arts for Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Our students will showcase their talents with an Art Show, Band Concert, and Chorus Concert. The Book Fair will also be open. We hope that you will be able to attend.

We also want to extend a big thank you to the East 10th Street Christian Church for their continued support to our students and families with their generous contributions.

Manning Elementary School had third quarter awards day on Friday, April 12, for third, fourth, and fifth grades.

In addition to the awards, each grade level performed musical selections. Our students did so well! This week is a focus on the future for our students at Manning with Career Spirit Week. Yesterday was College/Military Day, and students wore a t-shirt to support their favorite college or branch of the military.

Today is My Future Is Bright! Students wore neon or bright colors. Tomorrow will be Interview Day, and students will wear their best interview attire and show off their interview skills. Thursday will be Favorite Teacher Day, and students will dress up like their favorite teacher to show their support for him or her. Finally, Friday will be Future Career Day, and students will dress up like their future career and attend the first annual Career Fashion Show and Career Fair from 8:30 - 11:00 AM. We are excited for our community members to come to school dressed up as their career and walk the student-lined hallway as we introduce them and their careers over the intercom and meet with students during the Career Fair portion of the event.

Belmont Elementary School also has an exciting night of learning planned for this week. Thursday, April 18, 2024, is the Duke Energy Family Science Night. We received a Duke Energy Science Night grant to support these wonderful opportunities. Our students and their families will be able to learn and explore by making UV bracelets, testing paper flying machines, creating sound sandwiches, and much more. This event will last from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Many of our students and staff learned about solar eclipses last week. With approved safety eyewear, some of our students went outside to view it.

In addition to the many exciting events going on in the schools this week, tonight the Board of Trustees will meet at 6 PM for their April 2024 Board Meeting. As always, everyone is welcome to attend the Board Meeting in Building B at Central Office. We hope to see you there!
