Blackwell: Seeing promise in the past

Bill Blackwell sees promise in the corn mill he bought in 2003 and a potential that could help Weldon fulfill its goals of becoming a tourist destination, the main goal identified in the Small Town Economic Prosperity program the town is in.

The county and city are working together to have the Federal Aviation Administration release the old airport property.

Roanoke River fishing report

From the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission

 

“Shad fishing’s been real good up here this week, particularly up at the 48 bridge in Roanoke Rapids.” 

That was Bobby Colston’s reply on Wednesday when asked how the fishing on the Roanoke River has been over the last few days.

The last time a Young Eagles event was held in Halifax County 168 children got free 20-minute plane rides.

The Weldon town board is calling on the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and district attorney’s office to request the SBI open a special investigation into the murder of Susan Shearin Clary.

Town, owner differ on grist mill use

Mayor Julia Meacham and Weldon board member Earl Smith don’t believe Bill Blackwell has lived up to his contract with the town, failing to bring what Meacham calls a viable business to his grist mill overlooking the Roanoke River.
