NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 5:15 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall located at 700 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC to hear the following item:
Rezoning Request. Amendment to the Roanoke Rapids Zoning Map to rezone Halifax Co. Parcels 1200528 (2.5± acres), 1202044 (6.5+ acres), 1200186 (6.5+ acres) and 1201123 (6.5+ acres) from R-40 Residential District to B-4 Commercial District. These properties total 21.8+ acres with approximately 870 feet of frontage on the western right-of-way of NC Highway 125 and 600 feet of frontage on the southern right-of-way of American Legion Road.
Citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearing to present comments.
Related information is available for public inspection in the Planning and Development office at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall, 1040 Roanoke Avenue. Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in this matter are urged to attend the meeting.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
The City of Roanoke Rapids is now accepting applications for the following positions:
Lifeguard (Part Time)
An employee in this position assists in all aspects of operations of the recreation center swimming pool and aquatic center. The employee has the responsibility for making sure that the facility is maintained in good condition, to ensure that participants in swimming activities and classes are in a safe and clean environment.
Minimum Qualifications: Must hold American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/ CPR/AED certification – Must be able to complete ½ mile swim in under 20 minutes.
Police Officer
This position is responsible for the enforcement of state and local laws.
Qualifications include:
Be a high school graduate or have passed the General Educational Development Test indicating high school equivalency.
Possession of valid driver's license with an active and consecutive 3-year satisfactory verifiable driving history. Driving history will be checked. (Must be able to be licensed in the State of North Carolina).
Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission.
Must possess a valid or current Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) certificate.
Candidates must provide documentation of B.L.E.T. Certificate. Certified Officers preferred but will accept applications for BLET Candidates.
(CERTIFIED Starting salary $35,000.00)
