Chaloner Middle School Hunter Safety team
Chaloner Middle School sent 2 teams (Black and Gold) to District 3 Youth Hunter Education Skills Tournament which was held at Rose Hill Farms in Nashville, NC on March 8th.
The youth were scored as a team and also in individual categories for rifle, shotgun, archery and compass. There were 27 individual teams in the Senior and Junior groups. Largest number every to compete in the District 3 competition. The Chaloner teams competed against 4 other schools in the Junior Division.
The Chaloner Black team finished 3rd overall in the Junior Division. They finished 1st in the archery event and 3rd in shotgun, rifle, and compass.
Individually Rob Poythress finished 1st in shotgun after competing in a shootoff and Robbie Spence finished 3rd in archery.
There are 21 7th and 8th graders on the team. Both teams did a wonderful job having only been formed in January.
The team members are: Robby Gums, Robbie Spence, Austin Wallace, AC Tant, Cameron Salmon, CJ Rogers, Rob Poythress, Jacob Stauffer, Cameron Wilson, Eddie Elias, Skyler Hux, Eric Baird, Tyler Gibson, Carter Horn, Meagan Colston, Shadrick Carter, Ben Spence, Joshua Daniel, Cameron Bailey, Macie Hasty, and Tyler Branch.
Coaches are: Lisa Salmon, Chris Rogers, Brian Davis, Bruce Norton, Chuck Hasty, Michelle Rogers and Ron Baird
The team is sponsoring a Bar-B-Que and Slaw sell on March 22nd. We will be selling Herman Moseley Bar-B-Que for $8.00 per pound and Slaw for $3.00. Pick up will be at 5:00 pm at New Testament Christian Church. We will deliver to anyone who places an order of 10 lbs or more. Orders need to be made by calling Michelle Rogers at 578-9633 or seeing any member of the team. Our goal is to buy a skeet machine and clays for the kids to practice with.
