Halifax Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society today delivered holiday cheer to residents at Northampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson.

During November and December, PTK members collected donations from campus and community members.

These donations included crossword puzzle books, board games and puzzles, winter clothing, blankets, diabetic socks, stuffed animals, a range of hygiene items and more.

After welcoming and thanking PTK advisor and English instructor Gary Redding and PTK student member Sonia White, Pauline Daye, activity coordinator for the rehabilitation center, enthusiastically accepted the donations. “We have been eagerly waiting for you all to arrive, and our residents will be thrilled to receive your gifts.”

HCC’s Vice President of Administrative Services and CFO David Forester shared that he was inspired by Redding’s leadership to direct the student organization’s service projects to focus beyond campus.

Forester also expressed his thanks to the center’s staff for their invaluable care and concern for its residents

PTK members were grateful to facilitate this annual holiday event since the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the donation drive in 2020.
