The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported that shortly before 11:30 this morning Deputy D. Bybee responded to a report of trespassers at a residence in the 3000 block of Highway 158 in the Roanoke Rapids area.

Major Anzell Harris said a woman later identified as 40-year-old Roanoke Rapids resident Ruby Peterson was located near the residence and was found in possession of property reported stolen from the home.

Peterson was arrested and charged with breaking and/or entering a residence, larceny after breaking and/or entering, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She remains in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond and is scheduled for a January 6 district court date.

The investigation remains active, and investigators are working to identify additional individuals believed to be involved.
