A Roanoke Rapids woman was cited Monday following a crash that claimed the life of a 41-year-old Petersburg man.
eCourts records show that Jessica L. Robinson, 35, was cited by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving with wanton disregard, and failure to maintain lane control.
First Sergeant Levern Bynum said the crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. on Highway 125 near Blue Sky Road.
A preliminary report by Trooper L.H. Merritt shows that Robinson was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed with Travis Hoylman as her passenger.
Robinson ran off the road to the right and struck a culvert. The vehicle became airborne, struck a tree on the passenger side, and began to overturn.
Bynum said Hoylman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the trooper comments section of the citation, Merritt reported that when he arrived at the scene, medics told him both occupants were trapped in the vehicle — one was deceased and the other was talking. “Upon looking at the evidence on scene, I concluded that the vehicle ran off the right side of NC-125 at a high rate of speed.”
Robinson is scheduled to appear in Halifax County District Court on April 27.
