A 21-year-old Weldon man faces six charges related to the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Avery D. Davis was charged Wednesday with three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to the warrant filed by Detective C. Watkins, the charges relate to pornographic videos involving prepubescent girls and adults.

The second-degree sexual exploitation counts stem from Davis allegedly distributing pornographic material via the Kik messenger platform, while the third-degree counts are for possession of the material.

Major Anzell Harris said that the charges originated from a report the criminal investigations division received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in August 2024, indicating that a Halifax County resident had sent child sexual abuse material.

Multiple search warrants were obtained for various online platforms. Harris noted that before an arrest could be made, additional information was sent to the CID, providing new leads and resulting in further search warrant applications.

On Wednesday, Watkins — with assistance from the CID and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation — executed a search warrant in Weldon.

Multiple devices were seized, and Davis was arrested.

He received a $195,000 secured bond and a February 26 District Court date.
