A 17-year-old was charged today with aiding and abetting voluntary manslaughter in a fatal shooting that occurred March 16 in the area of Graham-Scott Road and Highway 48 in the Roanoke Rapids area, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the juvenile, who was also charged with minor in possession of a handgun, was not the shooter but was allegedly driving the vehicle identified in the crime.
Major Anzell Harris said the young man received a $10,000 bond.
The HCSO said a preliminary investigation shows that two males were walking when a car stopped. An occupant exited the vehicle and spoke with them before shots were fired, striking another 17-year-old. The victim was taken to ECU North Hospital, where he died during surgery.
Harris said more arrests are pending.
