The Roanoke Rapids Police Department provided bottled water in observation of National Heat Stroke Awareness Day Wednesday.

The event was held at the outdoor pool at TJ Davis Recreation Center and was in partnership with Safe Kids NC.

Sake Kids is a non-profit program which provides education and awareness for keeping children safe from unintentional injuries.

“Heat injury awareness for children is extremely important as injuries can occur within minutes as children's bodies heat up three to five times faster than adults,” interim Chief Bobby Martin said. “We would like to thank the Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation Department for providing assistance and the venue.”
