Gaston Fire-Rescue-EMS and Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. Friday to a residential structure fire on Community Lane in Gaston.

Chief Ed Porter said in a statement the single-story residence was found engulfed in flames with parts of the roof collapsed.

All four occupants were found safely outside of the home. The occupants reported hearing a loud popping noise just prior to seeing flames. The fire was contained within 10 minutes of initial attack.

After fire suppression operations ceased, overhaul operations began. The structure was noted to have severe fire and smoke damage.

More than 30 firefighters from both departments were on scene for nearly two hours.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. Red Cross is assisting the family.

Northampton County EMS and the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office responded.
