The sheriff’s office is seeking help from the public in identifying a suspect from a reported breaking and entering.

On August 10 between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., a man broke into a business located on Highway 301 near the Edgecombe County line. Nothing was taken.

On August 8 the sheriff’s office received a report of a lawn mower larceny in the Halifax area. Further investigation by Detective Travis Clark led to the recovery of the victim's stolen item. Clark charged Quentin Hughes, 26, of Roanoke Rapids with larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense.
Hughes posted a $1,500 bond with a court date of September 18.
