The Halifax County Public Health System today reported its fifth case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the county.

Health Director Bruce Robistow said it is currently unclear whether this case is related to the four previously reported cases and investigation is underway.

Robistow would only say the person who is the fifth confirmed case is a Halifax County resident.

In a statement the health system said it continues to monitor the positive case while following CDC guidelines for monitoring.

Health officials are currently following up with other people who may have been exposed to this person.

Meanwhile, the Northampton County Health Department reported late Monday afternoon there are currently 28 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Northampton County.

The two new additional positive cases are linked to a single facility with the existing 24 cases.

As of Monday, two of the 28 cases will be deemed recovered as they will have been asymptomatic for seven plus days based on CDC guidelines.

Further testing has been done and individual results are pending.
