A Friday afternoon chase ended with the arrest of a Roanoke Rapids man.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy D. Bybee initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Frederick Holiday, 51. Holiday initially stopped near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Highway 158, but then allegedly sped off.

Harris said Holiday passed vehicles in the center lane, ran stop signs, and drove through yards. Deputies, state troopers, and Roanoke Rapids police officers assisted as the chase continued onto Dickens and Branch avenues, and then west on Highway 158 to Zoo Road and Stephens Street. The chase ended on Key Street, which is listed as Holiday’s residence on the warrant, after the vehicle was blocked in.

Holiday exited the vehicle and fled, but was apprehended.

A release order states that Holiday drove through a farmers' market area where people were shopping, and that residents were outside in some of the yards he drove through.

Holiday was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting, obstructing, or delaying an officer, driving without a license, expired registration, and injury to personal property for damaging a wheelbarrow and a basketball hoop.

He posted a $10,000 secured bond and has a July 8 district court date.
