A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Thursday night after reportedly pointing a gun while a passenger in a vehicle.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said in a statement that shortly after 11 p.m. Officer S. Langley responded to the Sheetz parking lot where Detective D. Moore located the vehicle.

A handgun wrapped in a sock was located in the rear of the front passenger seat.

David Edwards, 22, was identified as the rear passenger and the one pointing the gun, the report said.

Edwards was arrested and brought before a magistrate where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

He received a $5,000 bond and July 17 court date.
