In its report this afternoon the Halifax County Health Department said five new positive cases of COVID-19 have been added since Friday.

The total of positive cases since testing began in March now stands at 925 with a continued decrease in the trend.

There have been 17 related deaths — 14 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; two within the Weldon area ZIP code; and one within the Enfield area ZIP code.

A report on the number of current cases and recoveries is expected to be included in the department’s Wednesday report.

The health department encourages residents to continue to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
