The Halifax County Health Department today added seven new positive cases of the novel coronavirus to its data, bringing the total number of cumulative positives since March to 2,159.
According to the state’s COVID-19 alert system, the county is in the red tier, meaning community spread is critical.The report issued today notes the impact of cases on hospitals is low, however.

There have been 38 related deaths in the county with following breakdown: 20 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; five within the Enfield area ZIP code; five within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Halifax area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; and one within the Hollister area ZIP code.
The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the Three W’s — handwashing, wearing a facial covering and waiting 6-feet apart.
Northampton County
The health department reported today there are 914 total positive cases of which 775 have recovered. There are 94 active cases. There have been 45 related deaths.
Northampton is in the orange tier, meaning community spread is substantial.
