The total cumulative positive cases of COVID-19 in Halifax County since March is now at 3,500, the health department reported today.
The new data comes after 59 new positive cases were added.

There continues to be a sustained increase in the number of new positives and Halifax County remains in the red under the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services county alert system.
As of January 6, the 14-day positive rate in Halifax County was 15.7 percent. The 14-day case rate per 100,000 was 947.8
In Northampton County the 14-day positive rate was 14.8 percent and the rate per 100,000 was 759.6.
In Halifax County there have been 57 related deaths with the following breakdown: 28 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; nine within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; seven within the Enfield area ZIP code; six within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Halifax area ZIP code; two within the Hollister area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; and one within the Hobgood area ZIP code.
The health department continues to encourage residents to wait 6-feet apart, wash hands frequently and wear a facial covering.
Northampton County
The health department reported Monday there were 1,257 total positive cases of which 1,105 have recovered. There were 93 active cases.
There have been 57 related deaths.
