The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Christopher Davis:

McKimmey made a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and during the investigation he learned the driver, 18-year-old Kenya Dan’te Devaun Stansbury of Garysburg had an outstanding warrant from Northampton County.

Stansbury faces Northampton charges of  assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault by pointing a gun.

During a search of the vehicle, a concealed weapon with an altered serial number was located. Stansbury was placed under arrest and taken before a Halifax County magistrate.

McKimmey charged Stansbury with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.

He received a $5,000 secured bond and March 3 court date for the Weldon charges and a $10,000 secured bond and February 11 court date for the Northampton charges.

Sergeant L. Melton assisted.

Thursday shortly before 9:45 p.m. Melton responded to the 300 block of Woodlawn Avenue on a domestic violence protection order violation call.

Melton noticed a passenger vehicle which matched the description of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was heading south in the 300 block of Elm Street.

A short vehicle pursuit ensued and the driver, later identified as Demonta Nelvon Banks, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, abandoned the vehicle and ran towards the area of Ninth and Maple streets.

Melton obtained warrants for Banks’ arrest on charges of misdemeanor speeding to elude arrest, resisting a public officer and possession of marijuana up to one-half of an ounce.

A small amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle.

Davis said Banks is encouraged to surrender to law enforcement and anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
