Two additional deaths related to COVID-19 bring the Halifax County total to 85, the health department reported today.

The health department also added 15 new positive cases to its data. The total cumulative number of positive cases since March now stands at 4,661.

Health Director Bruce Robistow said the health department continues to encourage residents to wait 6-feet apart, wash hands frequently and wear a mask, making sure it completely covers the mouth and nose.

The health system reported the following Thursday:

More than 8,100 team members and providers have received the vaccine. More than 5,600 team members have received both doses, completing their vaccine series.

Since January 8 more than 11,000 eligible community members have received the vaccine.

Vidant’s system-wide census of hospitalized COVID-19 patients is 172. “It remains important for our community to help flatten the curve by continuing to practice important safety habits: wear a mask, wash hands often and avoid gatherings,” the health system said.
