A Weldon man was arrested on drug charges Monday following a suspicious vehicle call, according to the town’s police department.

Chief Christopher Davis said in a statement Officer M. DiPietro responded to a suspicious vehicle call shortly before 7:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Mill Street.

During the investigation the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as well as a cloud of smoke. 

The driver was identified as Latrell O’Neal Williams, 18. 

DiPietro located a clear plastic bag containing marijuana, a digital scale and a BB gun inside a book bag which was inside the vehicle. 

Williams was placed under arrest and taken before a Halifax County magistrate and was charged with possession of marijuana up to a half ounce and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

He received a written promise to appear in court on May 10.
