The perpetrator, later identified as Brandon Lee Boyd, 45, of Roanoke Rapids, had used the victim’s debit card information and linked it to his Cash App account. Six checks were stolen and forged with the victim’s signature.

Investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff led to warrants on Boyd for obtaining property by false pretense, identity fraud, six counts of forgery of an instrument, and six counts of uttering a forged instrument.

Hall said $1,300 was stolen from the victim.

Boyd, with assistance from D Squad, was arrested Saturday and received a $10,000 bond.
