The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following:
According to Chief Deputy Scott Hall, on July 15 investigators received a fraud complaint in the Everette’s School Road area of Roanoke Rapids.
The victim noticed fraudulent charges to their bank account, as well as checks cashed without their permission.
The perpetrator, later identified as Brandon Lee Boyd, 45, of Roanoke Rapids, had used the victim’s debit card information and linked it to his Cash App account. Six checks were stolen and forged with the victim’s signature.
Investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff led to warrants on Boyd for obtaining property by false pretense, identity fraud, six counts of forgery of an instrument, and six counts of uttering a forged instrument.
Hall said $1,300 was stolen from the victim.
Boyd, with assistance from D Squad, was arrested Saturday and received a $10,000 bond.
He has a September 15 court date.
According to Captain A.M. Harris, on Friday agents and staff from the Halifax County Health Department held a Medicine Drop at Dollar General in Hollister.
Agents collected over 1,400 pills and seven liquids during the take-back event.
Health department staff shared health information.
All medicine collected will be destroyed properly.
