The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Friday at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Monroe Street about shots being fired and people screaming.

When officers arrived, they spoke with people outside to determine where the shots came from.  Sergeant M. Moseley and Officer C. Batchelor approached the residence and Eric Lamont Squire, 50, of Roanoke Rapids, came out of the residence and was detained.

Officers continued investigation after making sure no one was injured inside.

Batchelor arrested and charged Squire with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and served him a fugitive warrant from the state of Georgia for a probation violation.

He was jailed without opportunity for bond and has a January 2 court date.

Hasty said alcohol use is suspected.

Sergeant M. Peck, officers S. Blythe and E. Johnson assisted.

On Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m., Master Officer D. Hundley responded to Belk about a larceny.

Loss prevention reported Jamesha Rekkia Vincent, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, a store employee, had allegedly stolen about $2,000 from the business by completing fraudulent return transactions while she was working.

Hundley arrested and charged Vincent with larceny by employee.

She received a $4,000 bond and December 5 court date.
